enjoy the isolated splendour of an eco retreat at Gal Oya Lodge


Dedicated to practising environmentally responsible tourism with just eight bungalows constructed from locally sourced natural materials, Gal Oya Lodge spreads across 20 acres of private forest bringing guests closer to nature. This property, located on the border of the Gal Oya National Park, is strategically placed for guests who want to make the most of boat safaris over Sri Lanka’s largest reservoir, which consists of four protected areas and 63,000 hectares of land. A keen-eyed observer may spot axis deer, water buffalo, sambar, leopard, mugger crocodile and more – even a resident elephant herd!

Each 800-square-feet bungalow consists of a private living room and spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed. Both rooms feature spectacular floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors that open onto a private veranda. Each bungalow features a large en-suite bathroom with his and her sinks, and both indoor and outdoor showers. The lodge also has a restaurant, bar and swimming pool, all beautifully set against a backdrop of the low-lying mountains.

It’s not merely about the luster of the property, but the experiences offered which adds colour to your stay. Surely, a jeep safari at Gal Oya National Park promises a novel experience with a picnic arranged along the sandy banks of the cascading river, while a boat safari on the beautiful lake allowing for bird watching. Experience the local culture during a private gathering with the aboriginal people of Sri Lanka, the Veddas, to understand their livelihood, or simply take a walk through the breathtaking scenery of the countryside with a Naturalist Guide.
